Professional Development Days

PD Days are "in service" training for all certificated Iyengar Teachers and all teachers are requested to attend one every other year minimum, every year would be preferable. This requirement will contribute to the teachers certification mark hours.

If you are a newly qualified Introductory teacher then you should aim to attend a day within eighteen months of your assessment.

You should contract the organiser of the day of your choice, at your present level of certification, and they will in turn send you a copy of the programme for 2007. You may be requested to teach an asana on the day and generally will be aware of this prior to the day. However, some organisers put the names of the asanas in a hat on the day and you draw one out and teach it! PD Days are definitely not like assessments, they have a workshop atmosphere. The Moderator leading the day will give you the opportunity to ask questions, to share information and will suggest different ways of working.

A record of all attendances will be held by Jo Duffin for certification mark purposes.

PD days encourage teachers to go forward in their practice and teaching. It is a fact that when we are studying for an assessment, we work hard to ensure we pass the exam but as time passes, it is possible that hard-earned work is diluted and we need some input to encourage us to maybe work for a further level of certificate. Guruji had said "todays maximum is tomorrow's minium". PD days are another opportunity to meet up with old friends and to make new ones.

In 2006 we have focused on Pranayama and I have received a lot of positive feedback. The numbers attending have far exceded normal levels. Make sure that you book yourself into a PD Day for 2007 when we will work on backward extensions and in some Institutes/Centres, it may be possible to practice with ropes (Yoga Kurunta).

You can attend PD Days anywhere in the country so long as you attend one at your present level of certificate.

The Professional Development Days for IYA (UK) teachers are now all listed under the Events Diary by date. They are also listed in one place on the attached file here. If you are a teacher and did not complete a PD day in 2007, please note that you will need to complete one in 2008 for your certification mark renewal.
